Since there are no islands on Koh Lanta, you will need to fly to any nearby airports, such as Krabi Airport or Trang airport. From there, you can book a service that will transport you in a minivan and take you straight to the pier where you can catch a speedboat or the ferry bringing you to Koh Lanta.

Using Trang Airport
If you’ve decided to fly to Trang Airport, expect the price to be higher than that if you were to go to Krabi Airport. From there, the journey will take you approximately two hours, depending on where you’re staying on the island. If you’re staying in the northern area of the island, expect the journey to last around two hours. If you’re staying on the opposite end, however, you’ll be adding another thirty minutes to the travel time.
Using Krabi Airport
A slightly cheaper alternative to get to Koh Lanta compared to Trang Airport is through Krabi Airport. Expect the total traveling time, whether you’re staying on the north or south side of the island, to be half an hour shorter. That means that if you’re staying in the northern area, your journey will be about an hour and a half, while it would be two hours if you’re staying in the southern area.
Going from Airport to Island
There are a few ways you can get from the airport to the pier, which will then get you to Koh Lanta. First, if you’re traveling alone, you can opt for a taxi service. If you have family or friends to bring along, hiring a private minivan will be best. Know, however, that a minivan can cost quite a bit of money, albeit cheaper if you split the cost between the group.
We highly recommend using the van if you have around three or more people in your group. If you have an international license, consider renting a car instead. That way, you have more flexibility in terms of where you want to go.
Upon arriving at the pier, you’ll need to wait patiently until the ferry is ready to move, which can add to your travel time.
On the Ferry
While you might be able to opt for speedboats, traveling by ferry is a better option, especially if you need to bring a vehicle. Because the ferry ride is slower than a speedboat, you can spend more time enjoying the beautiful view of Koh Lanta as you slowly approach it. Just remember to bring a snack and some drinks!
